The rig has been used particularly sucessfully in open cast coal exploration in Indonesia. The mintec 12.8 is fitted with a number of features that allow it to drill extremely fast and effectively in remote regions. The long mast stroke (7.5m) allows the use of full length drill rods at all times, and the powerful pullback (12,800kgf) and very fast hoist increase tripping times, giving the best production rate per shift.

These machines can also be fitted with a hydraulically deployed diverter box that can be forced into the ground around the borehole to entirely divert the up-hole flow from the borehole of cuttings, fluid and groundwater and is particularly useful when working in gas-bearing formations.
