Geotechnica Exhibition

Banbury, Oxfordshire, UK -  27-28 August 2009.

At a well attended networking event and exhibition held at The Drilling Academy Dando's David Mee was able to gain some insight into the state of the British Geotechnical Drilling sector:

dmeeThe geotechnical sector in the UK has had a challenging 12 months with cancellations and delays to construction projects impacting on the ability of consultants, main contractors and drilling specialists to plan ahead, particularly with regard to capital intensive activities such as plant procurement. However, it certainly seems that the horizon in getting lighter as the economic situation (which until only 3 months ago seemed dire) begins to show signs of stabilisation and the industry itself makes the changes necessary to confront the new reality.
The changes that we are observing are shifts that we have anticipated for some time but only in light of a leaner marketplace have firms been compelled to reassess their approach to plant procurement and management. Consultants who have until now effectively out-sourced all drilling works (and paid a risk premium to fix costs as a result) are looking very seriously at taking some of the risks back on-board by managing their own investigations to reduce costs.
Dando are especially well placed to benefit from the sector's resurgence when it comes, having both the product (the industry leading Terrier Site Investigation System and the versatile MTec 6) and the services (plant rental, consumable stock holding and technical advice) to meet the needs of the British site investigation industry for the years ahead.
