In response to the tighter credit conditions which has been stifling the supply of new plant to the Geothermal and Geotechnical industries over the past 18 months, Dando Drilling Rigs have given some serious consideration to the role that manufacturers and suppliers can play in freeing up access to potentially profitable plant purchases.

Many existing contractors and start-ups who, prior to the credit-crunch cataclysm could raise finance for rig purchases are now finding it difficult, expensive or impossible to raise capital for such investments. The reasons for this are often cited by finance companies and banks as a lack of confidence in not only the amount of work available, but also the continuity of work required to meet the payment schedule for the loan. Drill rig rental directly from the manufacturer can alleviate these problem in a number of ways:

• Access to plant. Rigs made available on a rental basis with no ongoing commitment.
• Transparency of costs. Rental costs are known and can be factored in when pricing projects. Greater control over costs can mean more accurate, more competitive pricing.
• Maintenance is effectively outsourced to the rig owner.
